Shannon Harper, the Youth and Young Adult Coordinator for the Central East Region, will be bringing the ideas and leadership strategies that are emerging in the River Rising Youth Immersion Leadership Experience to the OM LREDA retreat. This is based upon ideas that have been inspired by adrienne maree brown’s Emergent Strategies, Robin Wall Kimmerer’s Braiding Sweetgrass, and the work of Joanna Macy, including The Great Turning.

These times of change and uncertainty call for a certain kind of UU leadership. A leadership that is rooted in our Unitarian, Universalist, and Unitarian Universalist history but is also ready to re-examine and question old narratives and ways of being. A leadership that honors our ancestors while making way for new, innovative, and emergent voices. A leadership grounded in justice, skilled in listening, and able to move between support, witness, organizing, and pastoral care within our congregations and in the wider world.

We will:

  • Look at skills that encourage adaptability, resilience and creative problem solving.
  • Go deep on the importance of self-care (both physical and mental), spiritual practice, and the wisdom of elders.
  • Look at equipping ourselves and others with ways to relieve stress and create the supportive communities that are needed.
  • Consider what is needed to instill deep self-worth and the ability to see worth in everyone.
  • Focus on centering marginalized voices in everything we do and talking about liberation for all.

We hope you can join us for the entire retreat, but if you would like to attend and cannot the whole retreat, please contact Jenni Papp, uujenni [dot] papp [at] gmail [dot] com to see if we can work that out for you.

If you would like to request a scholarship to cover up to half of the cost of the retreat registration please contact President, Jenni Papp, uujenni [dot] papp [at] gmail [dot] com.
