This studio space is for adults who organize or facilitate UU congregation youth groups, whether they are volunteer advisors or professional youth directors, religious educators or ministers.
There are two sessions with unique content. The first is September 24 and the second is October 1, both from 3-4:30 pm ET. Registration includes both sessions.
Sam Wilson has served as the Director of Youth Ministries at Winchester Unitarian Society for 6 years and has been a Program Leader for the UU College of Social Justice for 8. This past summer Sam served as the Justice and Inclusion team-lead at FUUsion Virtual Summer Camp. WUSYG (his youth group's acronym) had a promising transition to virtual meetings last spring and Sam is eager to share his ideas and learnings with other youth group leaders who are asking themselves "What are we going to do this year??" In this two part studio Sam will specifically talk about how he’s addressed the challenges and opportunities of doing virtual youth group as well as invite participants to share their own ideas and learnings.
Topics will include:
- Practical tips and accessibility considerations for facilitating on Zoom
- Activities to do together beyond just games (but games too!)
- Ideas for fun check-ins and energy breaks
- Incorporating social action into the year’s plan
- Collaborating with youth on interactive and meaningful worship
- Providing pastoral care online
- Ways to engage and integrate with the larger congregation
- Publicity and hype - sending out consistent messages to get them excited about attending
- And much more!
Participants will receive links to two 1 ½ hour Zoom studio meetings as well as recordings of these studios that they can share with their co-leaders. In addition there will be a resource document curated for this studio. While this studio is hosted and advertised by the Central East Region we invite participants from all over the US and Canada to register.
Cost: In order to compensate our facilitator at a fair wage the actual cost of this workshop is $35 per person. Registration fees are on a sliding scale, based on your assessment of your ability to pay. Those who pay at the two highest levels are making a donation to help those in financial need for this event. Please remember that for a sliding scale to work, we need the same number of people with means to generously pay more to balance the needs of those who can afford less. (This is one way we try to build the Beloved Community!)
This offering was so popular, this event is now full. You can purchase access to the recordings and resources below.
Recordings and Resources - Can't make the date but want access to the recordings and resources? You can register for that as well. We'll give you access after September 23 once the videos are edited, costs are the same as for the in person event.
Register for Recording & Resource Only Access.
