Our Whole Lives Facilitator Training for Junior/Senior High Ages will be offered at Main Line Unitarian Church, in Devon, PA on March 11-13, 2022, IN PERSON. While the trainers will set the exact schedule for this training and provide that to you closer to the event date, expect to be in training between 3 pm and 9 pm on Friday, 8 am and 9 pm on Saturday and 8 am and 4:30 pm on Sunday. To be certified as an Our Whole Lives Facilitator, one must attend the entire training. Deadline for registration is February 25th and we are limited to 15 participants.

Please note these important points:

  • Age Minimums for live and online trainings: Participants must be at least 21 years of age to register for any training, and if working with teens, they should be at least four years older than the oldest teen in the program. We recommend co-facilitating with an older facilitator. This is a change from previous UUA policy, which set an age 25 minimum for the Elementary and Secondary trainings.

  • Training participants are responsible for purchasing and reviewing the most-current edition of the curriculum in advance and reading through it before the training. Do not buy or borrow a first edition of the 7-9 or 4-6 curriculum. They are out of date in terms of language and learning concepts. Many congregations have this curricula in their libraries, you should check with your congregation before purchasing. You will need your age level curricula and Sexuality and Our Faith. Curricula can be purchased from the UUA Bookstore.

In order to maximize the safety of training participants, facilitators, and their friends and families...

  • Participants and facilitators are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.

  • Participants and facilitators are required to be tested for COVID-19 in the week prior to the training.

  • Participants and facilitators are required to take their temperature each morning before training and stay home if the temperature is above 99.5.

  • Participants and facilitators are required to wear a mask over mouth and nose at all times during the training. Masks must be multi-layer - no neck gaiters or valves. Host congregation will provide surgical masks for participants who need a mask. We will take frequent breaks.

  • Meals will be eaten outside, as weather allows. In case of severe weather, participants will eat socially distanced from others.

  • Participants and facilitators will be seated at least 3 feet apart. (Not sure 6 feet is actually realistic for hearing purposes.)

  • Facilitators reserve the right to send home anyone who is exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms.

  • Facilitators reserve the right to cancel the training if local county covid transmission risk jumps at any time before training. From Susan Frederick-Gray's last statement: when "transmission risk is Very High or Severe (per the COVID Act Now data.”

Our Whole Lives (OWL) is an excellent, comprehensive sexuality education program that offers our young people the opportunity to explore their values, gain accurate information about topics that are often not easily accessible. The overall goal of the Our Whole Lives program is to help participants gain the knowledge, values, and skills they need to lead sexually healthy, responsible lives. We are proud that our congregations recognize that in order for young people to grow into spiritually whole, mature individuals we need to address the topic of sexuality. The material on Sexuality and Our Faith connects our religious beliefs with sexuality, spirituality, and issues on justice.

Our Whole Lives teacher training covers the curricula for the one of three age levels - elementary, secondary (junior/senior high) or adult (includes young adult, adult and older adult). The goals of this workshop are to prepare the participants to implement the curriculum as well as the Sexuality and Our Faith component. Through a varied program including practice and participation activities, the trainers will cover implementation techniques, curricula details, and technical information.
