Poster announcing OWL Elem Facilitator Training

Our Whole Lives Facilitator Training for Elementary (K-1/4-6) Ages will be offered at First Unitarian Church of Wilmington from August 2-4. While the trainers will set the exact schedule for this training and provide that to you closer to the event date, expect to be in training between 3 pm and 9 pm on Friday, 8 am and 9 pm on Saturday and 8 am and 4:30 pm on Sunday. To be certified as an Our Whole Lives Facilitator, one must attend the entire training.

Deadline for registration is Wednesday, July 10, 2024, and we are limited to 15 participants.

Trainers for this event are: Jamaine Cripe and Sherry Warren

Please note these important points:

  • All OWL trainings require that 3.5 hours of pre-training assignments be completed at least 4 days prior to the training. These involve ordering and reviewing the curricula; watching 2 short videos and a webinar; and submitting brief (1-3 sentences) reflections to the trainers. These assignments must be completed before a participant can be approved to facilitate.
  • Age Minimums for live and online trainings: Participants must be at least 21 years of age to register for any training, and if working with teens, they should be at least four years older than the oldest teen in the program. We recommend co-facilitating with an older facilitator. This is a change from previous UUA policy, which set an age 25 minimum for the Elementary and Secondary trainings.
  • Training participants are responsible for purchasing and reviewing the most current edition of the curriculum in advance and reading through it before the training. Many congregations have these curricula in their libraries; you should check with your congregation before purchasing. However, do not use a first edition of the K-1 or 4-6 curriculum, which are out of date. The latest curricula can be purchased from the UUA Bookstore: currently only the secular version is available. Read about the new curriculum format.

COVID Policy:

Currently, masking is required: please assume you WILL be masking during training hours. However, if ALL participants choose to waive this policy, trainers MAY use their discretion to set a masking-optional policy. Because of our commitment to the inclusion of those most vulnerable, we will ONLY move to a "masks-optional" policy if all participants choose this option.

Trainers will contact participants closer to the event (a few weeks in advance) to check in again about this question.

Your answer will only be seen by UUA registrars and your OWL trainers.

We hope everyone will understand and embrace these guidelines in the spirit of the UUA’s values as a caring community.

Cost: $450

Our Whole Lives (OWL) is a comprehensive, lifespan sexuality education program. The overall goal of the Our Whole Lives program is to help participants gain the knowledge, values, and skills they need to lead sexually healthy, responsible lives.

Our Whole Lives teacher training covers the curricula for the one of three age levels - elementary, secondary (junior/senior high) or adult (includes young adult, adult and older adult). The goals of this workshop are to prepare the participants to implement the curriculum. Through a varied program including practice and participation activities, the trainers will cover implementation techniques, curricula details, and technical information.
