Our Whole Lives Facilitator Training for Junior/Senior High Ages will be offered at Sunnyhill - Unitarian Universalist Church of the South Hills, Pittsburgh, on August 2, 2024, IN PERSON. While the trainers will set the exact schedule for this training and provide that to you closer to the event date, expect to be in training between 3 pm and 9 pm on Friday, 8 am and 9 pm on Saturday and 8 am and 4:30 pm on Sunday. To be certified as an Our Whole Lives Facilitator, one must attend the entire training. Deadline for registration is Wednesday, July 10, 2024, however if we have 8 registrants by that date we will leave registration open until July 1 or we reach our max of 15.

Trainers for this event are: Eric Morrow & CB Beal

Please note these important points:

  • Age Minimums for live and online trainings: Participants must be at least 21 years of age to register for any training, and if working with teens, they should be at least four years older than the oldest teen in the program. We recommend co-facilitating with an older facilitator. This is a change from previous UUA policy, which set an age 25 minimum for the Elementary and Secondary trainings.
  • Training participants are responsible for purchasing and reviewing the most-current edition of the curriculum in advance and reading through it before the training. Do not buy or borrow a first edition of the 7-9 or 4-6 curriculum. They are out of date in terms of language and learning concepts. Many congregations have this curricula in their libraries, you should check with your congregation before purchasing. You will need your age level curricula and Sexuality and Our Faith. Curricula can be purchased from the UUA Bookstore.

As UUs, we are committed to equity, justice and liberation. This includes protecting those in our community who are most vulnerable, and creating event spaces that can be welcoming to a wide range of people based on their risk or health status.

Guidelines: The UUA is committed to promoting a safe environment for all members of our community and guests. Considering the ever-changing impact of the coronavirus variants, UUA Events share the following guidelines:

  • Onsite attendees are required to be vaccinated and boosted, if eligible.
  • High-quality masks (N-95/KF-94/KN-95 masks) are required in our indoor shared training spaces (including bathrooms) except when eating or drinking. Weather permitting, we will share our meals outdoors.
  • Testing before you travel is required. We will have rapid antigen tests on site at our event in the instance someone starts to feel unwell while attending.
  • Event organizers will have a handful of rapid tests on hand at the event; purchased by the individual event organizers.
  • If someone begins to have symptoms or tests positive at an event, they should notify the event organizers immediately.
  • Attendees will be welcome and encouraged to bring their own masks. A limited number of masks should be available for attendees who need them, again provided by event organizers - minimum surgical quality masks. If possible, it is also useful to provide N-95 or KN-95 masks for attendees who prefer them.

We hope everyone will understand and embrace these guidelines in the spirit of the UUA’s values as a caring community.

Cost: $450

Our Whole Lives (OWL) is an excellent, comprehensive sexuality education program that offers our young people the opportunity to explore their values, gain accurate information about topics that are often not easily accessible. The overall goal of the Our Whole Lives program is to help participants gain the knowledge, values, and skills they need to lead sexually healthy, responsible lives. We are proud that our congregations recognize that in order for young people to grow into spiritually whole, mature individuals we need to address the topic of sexuality. The material on Sexuality and Our Faith connects our religious beliefs with sexuality, spirituality, and issues on justice.

Our Whole Lives teacher training covers the curricula for the one of three age levels - elementary, secondary (junior/senior high) or adult (includes young adult, adult and older adult). The goals of this workshop are to prepare the participants to implement the curriculum as well as the Sexuality and Our Faith component. Through a varied program including practice and participation activities, the trainers will cover implementation techniques, curricula details, and technical information.
