Are you in charge of outreach? Need help? Here is a resource for you! Join the Outreach Revolution!
Unitarian Universalist (UU) values help people live better lives and create a better world. In a rapidly changing society, we can't expect people to seek us out the way they used to. We need to get outside our walls, build connections, and make our faith as accessible as possible. The UUA's Outreach Team offers tips, tools and resources for connecting with potential UUs through social media, websites, community events, and focused communication.
Join the network of UU's who are turning their ministry outward, doing outreach work in their congregations. Each month, you'll receive an email care package with our most recent original Growing Unitarian Universalist blog post, recommended blog posts with insights on outreach from other sources, and customizable social media graphics you can use to share the UU message, with your own congregation's name and community's needs in mind. Whether you do communications, social media, websites, membership, social justice, or marketing and promotion, whether you are a lay leader or professionals alike, find your place with others who see the power of reaching out.
The May post can be found here - Show, don't tell your values in the world.
It's Time for Your Yearly Updates!
Every year our congregations change their leadership. To ensure that your leaders are getting information they need from us, we need you to go to myuua.org and update your congregation's information. Please know, we use your information in myuua.org to set up our lists of congregational leaders, so it is really important that you update that information after your elections or whenever a leadership change happens. Learn more about this at the UUA website.
Did You Know CER Offers Religious Education Trainings?
The Central East Region offers various religious education trainings throughout the year. Our Whole Lives Trainings of Teachers for all age levels can be found around the region on many different dates. Renaissance Modules, 15 hour trainings of topics of concern for religious educators, but open to all, are offered as in-person, online or hybrid programs throughout the year.
One unique offering each year is RE Week at the Sea. This event takes place at Ocean Grove, NJ in August and offers a selection of Renaissance Modules and other trainings for Religious Educators. This year we offer the Teacher Development Renaissance Module, Youth Service Journey, the Philosophy of Religious Education Renaissance Module and a Family Ministry Training. How can it be better than great colleagues, an opportunity to learn and time at the beach? Registration is still open.
Better Together Blog: The Flowers of Turbulance
I have not enjoyed spring this year in Washington D.C., where I live.
I usually love the mild days of April, May and June in the Mid-Atlantic, where we have long stretches of blue sky days in the 70s. Rather than seeing how much heat or cold I’ll need to accommodate on any given day, I can leave my windows open and my socks off, eat meals outside, and rely on things being consistently peaceful and pleasant.

The Breakthrough Congregations Program has been reimagined and re-invented. This program celebrates and shares innovative ways congregations are adapting to the challenges faced in an evolving religious landscape. We are looking for bold one time initiatives as well as on-going sustainable efforts. This is not based on numerical growth or whole congregation health, though we will consider other benchmarks of health in your congregation. For more information and application materials, go to the Breakthrough Congregations webpage. Congregations and covenanting communities can apply and the application deadline is September 1, 2017.
The Global Majority (Unitarian Universalist Ministries) Collective will be a cohort of multigenerational Unitarian Universalist people of color working to create innovative contributions toward the creation of a multicultural UUism. This group will work to amplify and cross pollinate the talents and skills of its members to create liturgical, cultural, and other resources to decenter whiteness within UUism. We invite you to bring your whole self and join us in building this vision! Participants must be able to attend our first gathering on August 17-20th in Detroit, Michigan. Register here.
The Unitarian Universalist Association and the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee are excited to launch Love Resists, a joint campaign to protect both the values of our democracy and the humanity and rights of individuals and communities most at risk. Since the election of President Trump, more than 860 clergy members, 40% of UU congregations, and nearly 15,000 individuals have endorsed a Declaration of Conscience, pledging to stand on the side of love to protect the most vulnerable, defend core values under attack, and commit themselves to speak out and to act in support of basic human rights. Love Resists is the next phase in translating this declaration of values into action. Get involved by signing the Declaration of Conscience, exploring our resources, and taking action to support sanctuary and solidarity in your community. Visit www.loveresists.org to learn more, and share your stories of justice and solidarity with us using #LoveResists.
