From Your Regional Staff

Central East Staff

Friends,

The Unitarian Universalist Association is in the midst of a tumultuous time. UUA President Peter Morales and Chief Operating Officer Harlan Limpert have both resigned in the midst of controversy over UUA hiring practices. We can expect that our UUA Board will act very soon to name an Interim President and an Interim Chief Operating Officer. Please stay tuned for additional information from UUA Headquarters about these changes as soon as today.

UUA Director of Congregational Life Rev. Scott Tayler also resigned this week. As you may know, the Director of Congregational Life leads the field staff team of our UUA, which includes all Regional staff.

We want to personally reassure you that despite changes in our UUA's upper management, your Central East Regional Team is prepared as always to support you, your leadership, and your congregation. Feel free to reach out to any one of us.

Because the situation in our movement and Association is dynamic, we encourage you stay abreast of what's happening. We recommend the UU World as an excellent source of coverage, including a compilation of statements from a wide variety of UU groups and individuals.

The UUA is a living institution with its own flaws in spite of its best aspirations. We are committed to the work of building an inclusive and just UUA—and we can’t do it alone. We’ll continue listening and responding to you. All of our work with you—our congregational leaders--will continue: supporting you as you navigate conflicts, assisting you as you do your own work toward celebrating diversity, accompanying you during leadership transitions, and all the rest. We do this in partnership with you in faithful learning and growth. Please be assured that while our hearts are heavy, we remain steadfastly focused on the promise of our faith as it lives in you, in your congregations, and in each of us. We are in this together.

In faith,

Megan, Andrea, Beth, Cristina, David, Evin, Hope, Jillian, Joan, Pat, Renee, Shannon and Sue
