Opportunities for Connection ~ January 2017
Featured Resource: 30 Days of Love
So many of us deeply desire to live on the side of love when it comes to social justice movements. But what does that really mean? How can we be a nurturing, humble and steady hand on the side of justice in the face of violence and backlash?
We’re excited to bring you a sneak peak into 30 Days of Love 2017. Each week we will share tools and resources to help congregations reflect, learn and act around different sub themes of fortification. January 16, 2017 through February 14, 2017 – for 30 Days of Love 2017. CER Hosting UUA Presidential Candidate Forum April 1 (No Joke!)
The Central East Region will be hosting the three candidates for UUA president at a forum on April 1 at the Cedar Lane UU Church in Bethesda, MD. This event will be livestreamed throughout the region. Clusters are planning other activities and watching parties around this event. Thus far there are events scheduled in Syracuse, NY with the annual Gould Discourse, Columbus, OH and New York City. Others are in conversation and expect to be added soon.
If your congregation or cluster would like to host a watching party, please get in touch with your primary contact to help us get you on our master schedule. The full list with a map will be added to our website by January 15. You are welcome to plan additional activities, such as a workshop or cluster meeting around the forum and make a full day of the event.

News from the UUA
At General Assembly, our delegates chose "The Corruption of Our Democracy" as the 2016-2020 Congregational Study Action Issue (CSAI). The text of the CSAI and the new Study Action Guide are now available. The guide addresses how structural racism, economic inequality, violence, and climate change can be addressed through creating a strong movement fighting for the promise of our democracy. In addition, the draft statement on Escalating Inequality is available for review and comment. It is scheduled to be adopted at GA 2017. This statement also takes an intersectional approach to the deep systemic problems we face as a nation and will serve as a statement of intent for the future work of Unitarian Universalism. Discuss in your congregation and take part in the congregational poll and comment period by Feb. 1!
In the wake of this fall's election, our communities need Unitarian Universalist values more than ever. So many congregations have seen new visitors these past few weeks, and UUA.org website traffic is up too! The UUA is committed to helping you "show the love" through outreach, partnership and welcoming in your congregation. Now through Inauguration Day (January 20) and beyond, join us in a Show the Love response to answer the call to justice, compassion, resistance and healing in our communities. Add your congregations' vigils, demonstrations, projects, and events to the Show the Love map. Together, we see how strong and wide our love can be. Check out the Show the Love resource page for regular updates to help you plan your congregation's response. We'll include all the different posts, projects, videos and stories that UUA offices and partners are providing post-election.
