I've heard it called "Family camp," "hippie camp" and just "summer camp." It is all of those things and more. Central East Region Summer Institute, or CERSI, is an intentional, intergenerational community that gets created and re-created each summer as we come together as Unitarian Universalists. It is a vacation week to learn new things, relax, play, and connect with others. It is a time to experience new ideas and share your knowledge of things that interest you. It is a place for relaxed conversations with old friends and for meeting new people. It is immersing yourself in music, conversation, worship and friendship.

For 40 years we met in person at various college campuses in the region. Our 41st year was supposed to be our first year at California University Pennsylvania (CalU) in 2020. But then the pandemic entered all our lives. After 2 years of only hosting CERSI online, we are attempting to go back in person while still keeping an online component to the CERSI experience July 10-16. Vaccinations will be required for ages 5 and up and we will be following the current COVID protocols on campus.

We held info sessions last week online and if you were unable to attend, we have the presentation below. Learn about the new to CERSI Campus- where all dorm rooms are air conditioned and have private bathrooms; an allergy friendly dining hall with homemade gelato; and a hammock village, a place for relaxing with friends or catching some alone time. Also in the video, you will meet our theme speaker Kazim Ali, a poet, philosopher and writer. Kazim Ali will be “Questioning the Unquestionable and Answering the Unanswerable” each morning. There is children, youth, young adult, and adult programing – and lots of opportunities to be together in a covenantal community-playing, relaxing and enjoying each other.

There are jobs still available to offset your registration costs. Please see what positions are still available and learn how to apply. Scholarships are also available, please apply before May 31st to be considered. The goal is to make CERSI affordable to all who want to attend by offering camperships, jobs, scholarships. We welcome old-timers, first timers and everyone in between to CERSI 2022. Registration opens March 1 on the CERSI website. We look forward to seeing you July 10-16, online or in person at CalU.
