Are You Thinking about Summer? How About CERSI!
It's time to start thinking about summer and the Central East Region Summer Institute (CERSI - formerly SI)! I know, the snow is coming - if it hasn't already! - but what better time to be dreaming of warm sunshine, friendly people, and spiritual connection. CERSI is a week-long intergenerational summer camp for Unitarian Universalists and their friends from around the Central East Region, from July 12-18, 2020. It’s a summer camp in all the best ways: you can be creative, intellectual, spiritual, physical, social. The best thing of all is that you get to decide how you spend your time! Feel like having deep intellectual conversations? Great - there are folks who’d like nothing more than talking with you late into the night. Wanna sing, dance, knit, paint, draw or write? Fabulous - we have a community of people who love to create, and maybe you’ll even pick up a new skill. Needing to find time in your life for dreaming, thinking, or wondering? Yes - CERSI gives you permission to take that time for yourself. CERSI has activities for all ages that you and your family are welcome to participate in as the mood strikes you.
In 2020, CERSI moves to its new home at California University of Pennsylvania, located about an hour south of Pittsburgh. The facilities are amazing! All the dorm rooms have attached restrooms and air conditioning, with single, double, and quad options. Our area of campus is compact with everything close by including the Natali Student Center which contains the dining hall, worship area, pub space, religious education classrooms and a coffee shop. Campus also includes a pool, tennis courts, fountains to play in, beautiful natural spaces and plenty of room for youth programming, workshops, seminars, and places to just hang out.
CERSI’s 2020 theme speaker will be the poet Kazim Ali. The title of Kazim's highly-anticipated series of talks is “Questioning the Unquestionable, Answering the Unanswerable.” Come join us at Summer Institute at Cal U, where Kazim will help us grapple with the Big Questions, lead us into reveries and toward new insights, and strengthen us with the superpowers of poetry and love.
