At the Sunday service at General Assembly yesterday, Rev. Gretchen Haley charged us to reach out in partnership with other congregations in underserved areas, where the struggle with reproductive justice, trans care and LGBTQ issues is significant. This is your chance to live that charge.
In the heart of Appalachia there are communities of Unitarian Universalists working against poverty and bigotry and on the side of harm reduction, reproductive and environmental justice, racial equity, and LGBTQ acceptance. They are small but mighty congregations, most with fewer than 30 members. In the face of rising challenges to human rights, a raging HIV and opioid epidemic, and increasing economic inequality, they are seeking to band together to amplify our lifesaving message. Your financial contributions through their Faithify campaign will help them connect with and strengthen each other as they take action on the side of love.
Now more than ever, the voices of Unitarian Universalists are needed in Appalachia, but these congregations have been hit hard by the pandemic. This is a time for new ways of thinking and being and taking action together. They are building connections among our communities and need financial support to create a multiplatform multi-congregational UU presence in West Virginia and beyond.
The Appalachian Alliance is a new partnership between congregations located in West Virginia and south western Ohio. They have created a project on Faithify This new Appalachian Alliance will help offer support and community to isolated Unitarian Universalists who are scattered across these mountains, as well as our diaspora of folks who have left Appalachia but whose hearts are still with here!
The money raised for the Appalachian Alliance of multi-congregational community will go to buy equipment needed for multiplatform worship and events, training for individuals and teams to use the equipment and software for multiplatform events and worship. Lear more at Faithify.
