Week-long immersion for teams (ministers, professional religious educators, committees) or individuals wanting to deepen and refresh faith formation in their religious community
“Everything we do is faith development.
All we teach is Unitarian Universalism.
The congregation (your ministerial context/life) is the curriculum.
The wider community is your classroom.”
—Rev. Connie Goodbread and Jess Hunt
That’s all fine and good. But how do we do that?! We’re going to set you up to do that!
You can take this experience as deep as you like. Extra reading and assignments are eligible for credit toward the UUA Religious Education Credentialing. This experience is 30 continuing education hours for the UUMA.
This course is designed to be a comprehensive introduction to ideas and practices that give Unitarian Universalist Faith Formation its meaning and purpose for people throughout their lives.
We will...
- explore our rich history of religious education and make note of how formative people and events shaped its philosophy;
- experience firsthand a variety of teaching strategies; explore theories of human, faith and identity development;
- investigate through contextual research in our own congregations how these theories and models play out;
- open our imaginations as to what is possible through a private excursion to the WNDR Museum.
The course is designed with principles of anti-racism, anti-oppression, and multicultural teaching and learning in mind, so as to model how this lens applies to religious education. Though this course builds on the Unitarian Universalist tradition, religious educators from all faith traditions are welcome.
Your instructor, Rev. Tandi Rogers, is a Credentialed Religious Educator and ordained clergy who has taught a version of this intensive as a graduate-level class for 10 years. It absolutely lights her up and she can’t wait for you to arrive.
Retreat includes: Access to archives, WNDR Museum field trip, snacks, and instruction.
