The Worship Renaissance module will be offered online on Tuesdays, July 11, 18, and 25; and August 1, 8, and 22 (note the class skips the week of 8/15). The module will be facilitated by Michelle McKenzie-Creech, CRE-Advanced and Sheila Schuh, CRE-Leadership. Registration is limited to 15 participants and the fee for this six-session module is $300, payable on a sliding scale according to availability to pay. More payment details are available in the registration form. The registration deadline is June 27, 2023.

Module Requirements

The Worship Renaissance module is an online learning experience comprised of six two-hour webinars with reading and other assignments for each session. Credit will be offered for full participation in the module. Full participation includes:

  • Online attendance at six two-hour sessions;
  • Reading and reflection to prepare for each session;
  • Responses to Reflection Questions on the Discussion Forum after each session; and
  • Submission of final evaluation within a week of the ending of the module.

Goals of the Module

In this module, participants will:

  • Reflect on the meaning and purpose of congregational worship experiences;
  • Explore common elements and rituals in Unitarian Universalist worship settings;
  • Reflect on the historical and cultural context of Unitarian Universalist styles of worship;
  • Apply resources and skills for the craft of worship design that is inclusive, participatory, multicultural, and sensory-rich for a variety of developmental needs and life stages;
  • Identify the challenges and opportunities of creating worship in various congregational and employment contexts;
  • Practice creating worship experiences that contribute meaningfully to dismantling white supremacy; and
  • Evaluate the aspects and impact of a worship service.

Technical Considerations

The webinar platform is Zoom, which you can download from Zoom.

In order register and access module materials, participants must have or create a UUA profile name. On UUA.org, click on “create account” at the top right and follow instructions on the page. If you have already participated in an online module, use the profile name you have already created. You must register with the email address affiliated with your UUA.org profile to be added to the group and begin the preparation required before the first session.
