The Ethics & Care course will be offered in an online format on Mondays, Sept 16, 23, and 30, 2024, 7-9pm ET / 6-8pm CT / 5-7pm MT / 4-6pm PT. The course will be led by Bailey Whiteman, Certified Music Leader and the Rev. Darrick Jackson. Registration is limited to 15 participants and the fee is $100, payable according to a sliding scale. Course Requirements
The Ethics & Care course is an online learning experience comprised of three two-hour webinars with reading and other assignments for each session. Credit will be offered for full participation in the module. Full participation includes:
- Online attendance at three two-hour sessions;
- Reading and reflection to prepare for each session; and
- Submission of final evaluation within a week of the ending of the module.
Goals of the Training:
By the end of the course, participants will:
- Understand the content and responsibilities outlined in theAUUMM Code of Conduct,Personal Romantic Relationships guidelines,Accountability Procedures, and Draft Letter of Understanding;
- Be familiar with the Codes of Conduct for religious professional colleagues including those in UUMA, LREDA, AUUA, and UUAMP;
- Familiarize themselves with their congregation’s covenant and staff covenant, if they exist, and Article II of the UUA bylaws, as well as develop an understanding of covenanting best practices and purposes;
- Introduce a working definition of shared ministry both with lay leaders and among staff teams, understand how their own staff team collaborates, what their role is within it as the music professional, and how boundaries get understood and established; and
- Articulate professional boundaries as a tool for caring for others and self and discuss why self-care is essential for all religious professionals.

The webinar platform is Zoom, which you can download from Zoom.
In order register and access module materials, participants must have or create a UU Institute profile. On UUinstitute.org, click on “Log In/Register” at the top right and follow instructions on the page to Register. If you have already participated in a UU Institute training, you will be able to use the account you have already created once your facilitators add the course to your profile. In your course registration at the link below, you must provide the email address affiliated with your UU Institute account for facilitators to add you to the group and begin the preparation required before the first session.
