Thirty Days of Love, Day 25: Tweet Your Faith

By Deborah Neisel-Sanders

Date: Feb 9 – Tweet Your Faith Staff Member: Office Administrator Deborah Neisel-Sanders Description: Post your favorite social justice/love quote in your Facebook status or Twitter update. You can find some samples from our Tweet Your Faith pages on: Immigrant Rights and Religious Tolerance One of the things I love to hate about Twitter is the 140-character restriction. Many’s the tweet when I’ve struggled with subbing fake words like “b4” and “gr8” to get it to fit, trying to keep the quality of what I was trying to say from being lost in the effort. But when tweeting about big topics, like love or faith, this painfully enforced brevity can actually make the statement sound almost poetic, enhancing the clarity of the thought. Even if you’re not on Twitter, you can try it yourself: Create a “tweet” of just 140 characters or less that speaks to your own faith, or about what you love best. The exercise in itself will distill the essence of these concepts that sometimes seem too large to verbalize. Yes, it would be much easier to select someone else’s brilliant musings to express what you feel, But how much more satisfying and enlightening to attempt it for yourself! After all, we are each so completely unique – and there are almost endless combinations of 140 characters to choose from. (BTW, if I actually had to select someone else’s quote to tweet, it’d be this one – and just 98 characters, to boot!) “I do not weep at the world – I am too busy sharpening my oyster knife.” - Zora Neale Hurston – Deborah.
