30 Days of Love: 11/30

By Carey McDonald

When I attended Justice General Assembly in June 2012 in Phoenix, AZ, one of the most impressive things was the depth of relationship between the local Unitarian Universalist groups planning Justice GA and the Phoenix-area partner groups, whose roots run deep in the immigrant rights and Hispanic/Latino communities. They had worked for years to learn about one another and find out how they can work together towards immigration justice, and the partner groups were invited to be present in a myriad of ways during Justice GA. This model of partnership "with" people to heed the call of justice, not just doing things "for" or "to" them, is at the heart of the "Breaking Bread, Building Bridges" campaign of the Interfaith Immigration Coalition. I believe this approach exemplifies the highest practice of our UU principles, respecting the inherent worth and dignity of each person while acknowledging our connection to the interdependent web of existence.brings together workers and allies to organize and advocate for safe, secure jobs and healthy communities throughout eastern Massachusetts. January 29, 2013. Prepare for "Breaking Bread, Building Bridges"

Today, I signed up for updates with the Massachusetts Coalition for Occupational Safety and Health, the local affiliate of the Interfaith Immigration Coalition. The MCOSH "brings together workers and allies to organize and advocate for safe, secure jobs and healthy communities... through training, technical assistance and building community/labor alliances." Turns out they are right down the street from me, so I'll have to stop in soon and commend them on the good work they are doing and find out how I could be more involved.
