Your "becoming" is coming

"becoming: A Spiritual Guide for Navigating Adulthood" is hot off the press and boy is it ever HOT! When we started promoting this book last week we had no idea just how quickly it would become so popular.

We knew this collection of reflection and essays spoke to young adults, but we didn't expect so many young adults would be so eager to hear!

We weren't caught unware, but turns out we've been caught short...

The first amazing part of our enviable problem is that generous donors, John F. and Susan B. Smith, funded this project – including printing of 3,000 copies for our first run out of Skinner House Books. The second amazing part of our enviable problem is that after setting aside 1,000 copies for young adult groups and campus ministries around the country, saving copies for Bridgers at theSynergy worship service at General Assembly 2015 and for groups that work with young adults like the UU College of Social Justice, we received requests for "becoming" from more than 1,000 Unitarian Universalists and other spiritual seekers from all over the world – including Australia, India, and Romania – numbering more than 2,000 copies for themselves, young adults in their family or their congregations and ministries.

This is such an exciting problem to have! (C'mon, be excited with us, 'cause this problem not only has a solution, it is a solution!).

It's exciting that this book was made available for free by the generosity of committed UUs! It is exciting that people feel so enthusiastic about their own faith development as a young adult or about the spiritual nourishment of young adults they love. It's exciting that we've got this problem only nine days after "becoming" hit the shelves!

Well first of all, we're going to honor all the requests that already came in as soon as we can. (AND it might take awhile.) We ask your patience if you are waiting for your copy, and want to remind everyone that young adult groups and campus ministries all over the country will receive shipments of "becoming" in the coming weeks – even if they did not request the book. And if your group is scheduled to receive a shipment and you also requested a book, your personal order will be held in (for now) so we can get "becoming" in the hands of young adults who can't get a copy through group affiliation.

Second of all, we're working on printing more books. The Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministries, Skinner House Books and the Office of Stewardship and Development of the Unitarian Universalist Association have teamed up to take care of this. We'll keep you all posted as we determine how many more copies we can print and how they will be distributed.

In the meantime, there is an e-book version coming soon and rumor has it the materials from becoming will go up on Worship Web at some point in the future.

We promise, the inspiring and heartfelt pieces in becoming will be available to you. And, yeah, it might also take a bit longer than any of us would like – but at least "becoming" is worth waiting for! Thank you for your patience, and thank you for your enthusiasm for this vital project!
