Help UU Young Adults Find Each Other!

They Are Everywhere – You Just Need to Know Where to Look

“I’m moving to a new part of the country. How can I find other UU young adults?” “I just learned about Unitarian Universalism and want to check it out. Where can I find peers?” “I want to get more involved. When is the next gathering of UU young adults in my area?”
Along with the time honored method of getting a visible flaming chalice tattoo or finding a local congregation, there are two old-but-improved tools from the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministries that I hope you’ll use to solve these conundrums! First up: the HubMap. Simple concept. It’s an open source google map where you can list your UU young adult group (red marker), campus ministry (yellow marker) or note that you are hoping to find other UU young adults in your area (pink marker). The HubMap is great and it will be even more useful as a tool with regular upkeep to make sure entries have enough updated information for folks to actually go check out the group they’ve found. How can YOU make the HubMap an awesome tool for UU young adults everywhere?? I’m glad you asked!
  1. Part of a young adult or campus ministry? Check to make sure it’s on the map in the right spot and that the information is complete and accurate. Check the HubMap description for details on what information is most helpful.
  2. Seeking other UU young adults in your area to create a group with? Add a hot pink marker and list some way of getting in touch with you. (Facebook name, twitter handle, an email you made up just for that purpose…)
  3. Spread the word! Share the HubMap on social media and tell your UU friends that it exists so they can use it too.
For our part, we’ll be going through the entries regularly to make sure information is accurate. So don’t be surprised if someone from the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministries contacts your group just making sure that the links or emails work and that you’re still meeting. Next: the HubCalendar. Again, pretty simple. It’s a google calendar where you can list your event that is intended for UU young adults. The HubCalendar is now much easier to use. All you have to do is fill out this simple form with the information about your event and it will automatically show up in the calendar within a day or so. This will be a great way to see what events are coming up and even to avoid overlapping scheduling. This one is truly easy. If you’re hosting an event, fill out the form! If you’re interested in attending events, check out the calendar! And don’t forget to spread the word and share the HubCalendar on social media.

The more we use the HubMap and HubCalendar, the more effective they will be! Let’s all join in on making it easier than ever to get involved in UU young adult community for people all over our continent.
