Witness – and Make History in March, 2015

The Living Legacy Project is hosting a conference, Marching in the Arc of Justice, in Birmingham, AL on March 5-8, 2015. It is open to people of all ages, and we would love to see a contingent of Unitarian Universalist youth and young adults attending.

Spring 2015 marks the 50th anniversary of the call from the Southern Christian Leadership Conference for people across the United States to join the struggle for civil rights and the end of Jim Crow. Among the thousands that followed that call were James Reeb and Clark Olsen, and including many youth and young adults.

Today the prison-industrial complex, as well as Ferguson, #BlackLivesMatter, and the recent non-indictment in the death of Eric Garner call us to Alabama once more. As young Unitarian Universalists working to create the Beloved Community, we are called once more to learn and witness. We will be honoring the brave souls who stood in front of fire hoses and horses, who bore the violence of billy-clubs and attack dogs, and who resisted the tear gas while shedding tears for freedom.

There are scholarships available for youth, young adults, and others based on financial need. Please apply for them.
