Membership

Anyone is welcome to visit a Unitarian Universalist congregation. You don't have to be a member to participate in most of the life of the congregation. Feel free to attend Sunday Services and congregational events for a while to see if you like the congregation. If you decide you want to make a long-term commitment to the congregation and to participate in their community decision-making, you might consider joining as a formal member.

Each Unitarian Universalist congregation determines its own rules and policies, so there is no one official definition of membership. In most congregations, you are considered a member when you sign the membership book and pay a pledge to the congregation. While each congregation relies on financial pledges from their members to support the congregation's continued life and work, some don't require any financial commitment. Some do require participation in a "new member" class before joining.  If you would like more information, contact your local congregations to ask about their membership requirements.
