Vision for Unitarian Universalism: Congregations and Beyond
Unitarian Universalism grows out of congregational roots. We organize ourselves according to congregational polity, which gives us a very democratic system of governance, with delegates from congregations making most of the major decisions affecting the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA). (See Congregational Life for more information.)
Recently we have come to recognize that there is also opportunity for Unitarian Universalists to connect with our movement in ways that go beyond congregational walls.
Strategic Direction
In a paper entitled "Congregations and Beyond," the Rev. Peter Morales, President of the UUA, offers a vision of the opportunities and challenges that face Unitarian Universalism as an international movement. He presents a strategic direction for Unitarian Universalism consistent with our core values and historic willingness to push beyond pre-determined boundaries.
All Unitarian Universalists are encouraged to read, discuss, and share read, discuss, and share "Congregations and Beyond" (PDF).
Conference in February 2012
In order to explore some of the strategies we might pursue toward this vision, the UUA will be holding a consultation February 1-3, 2012. Included in this conference will be a collection of people doing some of the most innovative work in this direction in a multitude of ways.
