UUMN MENTOR PROGRAM

Are you a new music director? Are you new to UU?

Are you looking for ideas or ways to grow a music program in your church?

Is your congregation building a music program?

Perhaps the UUMN Mentor Program is for you.

What is the UUMN Mentor Program?

The Mentor Program of the UUMN is a support system available to any UU congregation or music director who is a member of UUMN.

Benefits of the Mentoring Program

The Mentor coordinator will put you in touch with a UUMN member near you who can assist you with determining your musical goals for your church and then moving towards reaching them. Some of these goals may be but are not limited to:

Improving congregational singing

Beginning a choir

Developing a children’s choir

Choosing appropriate worship service music

Finding choir music

Integrating music into the worship service

Scholarships for the summer UUMN conference are available for Mentored music directors. Responses from scholarship recipients give the conference experience high marks… “One of the most unique experiences in my musical life…spiritually energizing.” “I have found a fellowship of believers to whom I can turn for advice and support.”

How can you qualify?

We ask that the church either join UUMN or assist the Music Director in joining UUMN. This organization offers so much in resources, making the membership an additional way of finding ideas and support.

Mentor-Church Covenant

When contact is made between the UUMN Mentor and the Mentoring church or music director, some ideas about goals and expectations will be made. Music needs will be addressed and contact frequency established.

We expect that a year of working together in a Mentor-Mentee relationship with check-ins of at least once a month should be sufficient to establish groundwork for a successful music program.

Most contact can be made by phone or by email. If face-to-face meetings are desired, we ask that the Mentored church be prepared to assist in matching travel expenses for the Mentor.
