How Items Get Included On Our "Most Viewed" List
Our "Most Viewed" list is organized using headings that reflect the organization of our website (Visitors, Members, Events, Giving, etc.).
This list mimics our site's organization (taxonomy), so any item included under one of those headers must have a link from that section on UUA.org (i.e., Standing on the Side of Love would not be eligible for inclusion without a link from within the Social Justice area).
Within each section, the 1-4 most searched-for, clicked-on, and/or visited pages will be included based on popularity over at least a six-month period. We use Google Analytics, CrazyEgg, and other measurement tools to provide data. When a page or section experiences an exceptionally high amount of traffic in a short period of time, changes to "Most Viewed" list may be made before a full review can be completed if that increased traffic can reasonably be expected to continue through the next 6-month review.
The "Current" list includes popular items that are not already listed in other areas, and includes items of a transitory nature, from any part of the site (a break from the taxonomy rule we follow for the rest of the “Most Viewed” list). For example, Earth Day resources might not qualify for inclusion in "Most Viewed" by the traffic it sees over any six-month period, but the spike in interest it receives in April of each year warrants inclusion in the “Current” list during this period.
This "Most Viewed" list is intended to reflect what people are actually using and looking for, not to advertise what we hope people will be interested in. Our frequent visitors will come to rely on these shortcuts to their favorite areas, so additions or subtractions will be considered carefully.
Questions about the decision-making process for including most viewed resources should be directed to the Manager of the Web Team at (web @ uua.org).
