Equal Opportunity in Housing
1968 General Resolution
BE IT RESOLVED: That the 1968 General Assembly of the Unitarian Universalist Association:- Commends the President and the United States Congress for passing civil rights legislation requiring equal opportunity in housing, calls upon the Congress to broaden further such legislation to cover all housing, and calls on all states and municipalities to enact and enforce necessary local laws or ordinances covering all housing;
- Calls upon the Department of Housing and Urban Development to provide incentives to state and local housing authorities and local non-profit or limited dividend organizations for building or providing in urban and suburban communities scattered-site housing for low and moderate income families;
- Encourages all churches and fellowships to consider investing available funds in integrated low and moderate income housing projects;
- Calls on all churches and fellowships to set up and cooperate with fair housing committees to foster attitudes which will lead to a transition from segregated to integrated housing in our country;
- Encourages all individuals to foster equal opportunity in housing by welcoming families of other races who move into a segregated neighborhood, by remaining in neighborhoods that are becoming integrated, and by themselves moving into integrated neighborhoods whenever opportunity affords.
