Solar Heating

1979 General Resolution

WHEREAS, solar space and hot water heating is practical and cost effective; and

WHEREAS, government research, development, promotional efforts and tax credits have stressed complex and expensive active systems and underemphasized more reliable, cost effective passive and simple active systems;

BE IT RESOLVED: That the 1979 General Assembly of the Unitarian Universalist Association calls upon the US Department of Energy to shift its emphasis from complex active to passive and simple active solar heating systems; and upon the US Internal Revenue Service to amend tax subsidy guidelines that discriminate against passive solar construction; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That this Assembly urges Unitarian Universalists to communicate their feelings on this subject to the appropriate government agencies.
