Congregational Polity and Open Membership

1965 Business Resolution

BELIEVING it is essential that the fundamental principles of the Unitarian Universalist belief be clearly understood and demonstrated, the Fourth General Assembly of the Unitarian Universalist Association, recognizing the autonomy of all its churches and fellowships under the principle of congregational polity, urges that the membership policies and the organizational practices of all member churches and fellowships be based upon the individual freedom of belief and open membership which are inherent in the Universalist and Unitarian heritages.
