The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA)
VAWA is a landmark piece of legislation that seeks to improve community-based and criminal justice responses to violence against women which include domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking in the United States.
International Violence Against Women Act (I-VAWA)
I-VAWA (S. 2279, H.R. 5927) was introduced in the Senate in October 2007 and was introduced in the House in 2008. The legislation would address issues of violence against women worldwide. Issues would include human trafficking, female genital cuttings, honor killings, rape, domestic violence and economic conditions that largely affect women.
