UUA and Other Faith Organizations File Petition Against Proposition 8
On Monday, November 17, 2008, The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA), The Unitarian Universalist Legislative Ministry of California, and other religious leaders and faith organizations representing millions of members filed a petition with the California Supreme Court asking the Court to invalidate Proposition 8. The petition argues that Proposition 8 poses a severe threat to the guarantee of equal protection for all and was not enacted through the constitutionally required process for such a dramatic change to the California Constitution. The full text of the petition is available (PDF).
Washington Office for Advocacy
Marriage Equality is a top priority issue for the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) Washington Office. The Washington Office has sent many letters to Congress
on this issue, as well as lobbied individually and with the Coalition Against
Discrimination in the Constitution (CADC), of which we are an active member. In
addition, the
coalition also has sponsored a series of Congressional briefings for Members of
Congress and/or their staff, including several from a religious perspective.
UUA President's Freedom to Marry Fund
The President's Freedom to Marry Fund (FTMF) supports nationwide public witness and social justice work in support of same-sex marriage. Visit this page for more on how to apply for a FTMF grant, as well as how to support the fund.
Unitarian Universalist Legislative Ministry California (UULM)
UULM California is a state-wide justice ministry that serves
to empower the moral voice of Unitarian Universalist values in the public arena.
Marriage equality is a priority issue for UULMC.
