The President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) is due for reauthorization in 2008. This is an enormous opportunity for our nation to start taking effective prevention seriously by removing the requirement that 33% of our prevention funding be spent on abstinence-until-marriage programs, and clear a path for prevention programs that addresses the real life needs of women and youth. The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) has been advocating for this for over two years and we ask you to join us by taking this action.
December 1 is World AIDS Day. We encourage you to observe this day in your communities and your congregations. The Unitarian Universalist (UU) United Nations Office, the UU Global AIDS Coalition and the UUA Washington Office have created a World AIDS Day worship package to assist in your worship planning.
We also encourage you to sign up for our advocacy news list so that each year you can be alerted to various opportunities to take action on World AIDS Day.
