Activity 3: Reading the Story "Balance" (5 minutes)
Materials for Activity
- Optional: Cordless microphone
- Optional: Pulpit or podium
- Optional: Photocopies of Handout 2: Story — from "Balance" for all participants
Preparation for Activity
- Review Handout 2: Story — from "Balance". Practice reading the excerpt from "Balance" aloud to ensure that you will present it effectively.
- Optional: If you would like each participant to have a copy of the story you will read aloud, print out and photocopy Handout 2: Story — from "Balance".
Description of Activity
Invite participants to sit comfortably and listen as you read aloud the story "Balance," excerpted from an essay by Unitarian Universalist minister Susan Manker-Seale included in the book Everyday Spiritual Practice: Simple Pathways for Enriching Your Life. You may wish to use a pulpit or podium and/or a cordless microphone to ensure that all participants can hear you.Including All Participants
Be sure that all participants can hear you read the story. As needed, you may wish to arrange for ASL interpretation at this workshop and/or provide a printed copy of the story to participants who are deaf or hard of hearing.
