Description of Activity

Share with participants:

Carolyn McDade's "Spirit of Life" may be the most loved and the most often, most widely sung hymn in Unitarian Universalist congregations. One visitor to a Sunday service said that as soon as she joined her voice with the congregation's in singing "Spirit of Life," she knew she had found her religious home.

Engage participants in a reflection on the song "Spirit of Life," using the discussion questions below. Allow a few short responses to each question. If you like, you or a volunteer may jot on newsprint the contributions of each participant:

  • Why do you think "Spirit of Life" is so loved and so widely sung?
  • Does the song stir something in you? If so, what?
  • How do you relate these stirrings to your sense of spirituality?
