Do trained About Your Sexuality teachers really need training in Our Whole Lives?
Yes, it is strongly recommended for a number of reasons. Our Whole Lives and About Your Sexuality have key differences in program design and philosophy, and the Our Whole Lives training presents new information and methodology. People who have previously taught About Your Sexuality have found training in Our Whole Lives to be very helpful, especially if it has been over two years since their initial training. If teachers do not attend an Our Whole Lives training, they miss not only the opportunity to learn about new resources and approaches, but also the opportunity to be part of an ongoing networking community of knowledgeable Our Whole Lives teachers. In addition to training, the leaders should be made aware of what local referral resources are available if a participant has questions that the leaders cannot answer, or if the participant needs additional support around issues of sexuality, sexual abuse, or harassment. Leaders should be trained by their local congregation about their state or province's procedures concerning mandated reporting of issues of abuse.
