Service and Social Justice for Young Adults

Social justice, from global to local issues, is a major way many young adults connect with their faith. There are opportunities for service trips, community projects and group experiences.

Young Adult Spirituality and Service

The Young Adult Spirituality and Service Program is an entry point for young adults interested in service and social justice trips. Highlights include:

Unitarian Universalist (UU) Social Justice Programs

  • UU College of Social Justice (UUCSJ)
Now offering service trips that affirm UU principles, the UUCSJ is a collaboration between the Unitarian Universalist Association and the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee to offer service learning opportunities and justice education. Learn about UUCSJ’s Programs & Trips.

  • Standing on the Side of Love (SSL)
A public advocacy campaign that seeks to harness love’s power to stop oppression, SSL is sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Association. It offers support for congregational action, community organizing and public witness. Learn about the national 30 Days of Love annual event.

  • Spiritual Activist Leadership Training Program (SALT)
This year-long program for a small cohort of fellows is sponsored by the UU Legislative Ministry of California. SALT Fellows:

    • Connect with justice makers across California.

    • Develop concrete faith-based leadership, fundraising, and community organizing skills.

    • Deepen their connection to our UU faith and communities.

Social Justice Resources from the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA)

  • Social Justice
Geared towards social justice in congregations, the UUA’s Social Justice web page provides workbooks, guides and information to engage in issues in your community.

  • Justice General Assembly
In 2012, thousands of UUs gathered in Phoenix, AZ, for a justice-focused General Assembly highlighting immigration, racial and economic justice issues. View live stream video, read stories and hear about this historic event. Read the UU World’s coverage of Justice GA.
