  • Chalice, candle, and lighter or LED battery-operated candle
  • Taking It Home

Preparation for Activity

  • Adapt the Taking It Home section and copy for all participants.
  • Write the closing quotation on newsprint, leaving room for editorial changes. Post the newsprint.

Description of Activity

Let a volunteer read the quotation below from ethicist and theologican Lewis B. Smedes, while another extinguishes the chalice:

You will know that forgiveness has begun when you recall those who hurt you and feel the power to wish them well.
