Schools with Spirit, edited by Linda Lantieri. To be published August 8. In Schools with Spirit, twelve respected educators show how they welcome the sacred into their own work with students, in spite of their fears of "overstepping" and in the face of the complex obstacles to nurturing the inner life of children in a school setting.

When the Drama Club Is Not Enough by Jeff Perrotti & Kim Westheimer. To be published August 15. Two activist/educators on the forefront of Massachusetts' Safe Schools Program for Gay and Lesbian Students, a nationwide model for states and school districts, give concrete, hard-won, and often inspiring lessons on integrating gay and lesbian issues to create powerful change for school communities.

School, edited by Sarah Mondale and Sarah Patton. Foreword by Meryl Streep. To be published in September. A timely book on the history of America's public schools, based on the PBS documentary. Lavishly illustrated, this volume examines debate on whether today's reforms challenge our forebears' notion of a common school for all Americans or are they the only recourse in today's complex society.

I Wanna Take Me a Picture by Wendy Ewald with Alexandra Lightfoot. To be published in September. Written for parents and teachers, I Wanna Take Me a Picture is filled with anecdotes about Ewald's work that make it an accessible and practical guide to getting children involved in photography. Examines the idea of literacy through photography.

The Passionate Learner by Robert L. Fried. To be published in October. A practical guide for teachers and parents to revive the joy of discovery in all students. Fried shows how a "chasm" develops between the initial promise of every child and the reality of life in school. Then, step by step, he shows how teachers - and parents as allies - can encourage and develop passionate learning in all kids.
