Dear Friends...
A farewell from Young Religious Unitarian Universalist (YRUU)Programs Specialist Betty Jeanne Rueters-WardIt is with sadness, inspiration, anxiety, hope, and gratitude that I look back on the action-packed year I have spent in the Youth Office. This year I've gotten to connect with some of the most amazing folks I've ever met; Unitarian Universalists (UUs) and non-UUs of all ages, from all over the world. This year in particular has also marked a time of intense transition and change for UUism, and youth programs. Being so intimately involved in our denomination enabled me to feel deeply the pain, growth, struggle, and rewards that come with such change. The next few years will bring much more change with them; be patient, be strong, be engaged, and be good to each other. To my friends and family (you know who you are) who have supported me through this intense experience, I can't thank you enough. As I leave my position and chase such pursuits as graduate school, sleep, and free time, I'm reminded of the amazing time I spent working with Jo Bibby, Synapse intern extraordinaire. Jo and I (along with former June Youth Program Specialists (YPS's) and current she-roes Megan Tideman and Megan Selby) have sometimes found it easier to express ourselves not in sentences, but in lyrics from the musical episode of "Buffy." Excuse the melodrama, but this is just one of those times...
"Believe me I don't wanna
go
And it'll grieve
me 'cuz I love you so
But we both know
Wish I could say the right words to
lead you through this land
Wish I could play the mother
And take you by
the hand
Wish I could stay but now I understand
I'm standing in the
way”
That’s all there is to say right
now! Enjoy this issue of Synapse.
In peace,
Betty
Jeanne
