Wink - From the Synapse Editors

by Dede and Gogo

Welcome Youth, Allies, Readers, etc. to another new exciting issue of Synapse!

This is Synapse: Reloaded because it is much like the first Matrix sequel. You may ask, well, isn’t it the second new issue of Synapse? Why isn't it Synapse: Revolutions? Well, simple questions get simple answers :p! We all know that Revolutions sucked big time, and The Revolution ain’t come yet, so step back!

We (Dede and Gogo, Erin and Greg, whatever) hope you have fun perusing, which actually means reading deeply, this fun-packed issue of Synapse that we have published for you/y'all! Why Dede and Gogo you ask? Well, we'll answer that...but only if you ask nicely.

As for the picture on the front, you ask, “Why do there appear to be so many Youth and Young Adults of Color?” Go on, ask! OK, well that was a picture taken at the Annual Diverse and Revolutionary Unitarian Universalist Multicultural Ministries (DRUUMM) Youth and Young Adults (YaYA) Spring Conference held at Community Church in Manhattan this year (the acronym is explained later). It was one of the largest gatherings of Unitarian Universalist (UU) Youth and Young Adults of Color in denominational history. We celebrate this event. We would also like to point out that the theme of this issue is Education Reform and Multiculturalism.

We recognize that having Youth and Young Adults of Color on the cover of this particular issue may seem tokenizing and we would like to say this is not the intention. We wanted to honor the amazing work done at the conference and wish to say, here, that we know well that Youth and Young Adults of Color are involved in a variety of social justice issues including Ed. Reform and just because this picture is on the cover of Synapse does not mean Young Religious Unitarian Universalists (YRUUs) are yet an anti-racist, multicultural organization, but we do appreciate the work of these Youth and Young Adults of Color and that of their white allies to make it such. Thanks to all of you who daily fight the good fight and stay in the struggle!

Until we meet again, a shout to the JPD, MBD, BCD, all of Canada, and Katy, TX!

Peace, Love, and Garden Gnomes,
Dede and Gogo
