UU Akron, OH Votes to Become Sanctuary Congregation

New Sanctuary Movement

The Sanctuary Movement is a growing movement of faith and immigrant communities doing what Congress and the Administration refuse to do: protect and stand with immigrants facing deportation. Members pledge to protect immigrant families who face workplace discrimination or unjust deportation.

Sanctuary Movement

On Sunday, April 23rd, the UU Church of Akron voted unanimously to declare itself a Sanctuary Congregation. They have already done much work in preparation for sanctuary and are now in the process of setting up space within their church for use by person(s) in sanctuary. The church will work closely with their partner, The Immigrant Worker Project of Canton, to determine who will enter sanctuary over the coming weeks/months. If you wish to know more about their process or want to help support their sanctuary project, please contact their minister, Rev. Tim Temerson at minister@uuakron.org
