Stop the ICE Raids: An Interfaith Public Rally for Federal Immigration Reform

WHERE: Boston City Hall Plaza (near the Government Center MBTA station)

WHO: Speakers will include:

  • Reverend William G. Sinkford, President of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) of Congregations.
  • Dr. Charlie Clements, President and CEO of the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee.
  • Reverend Kim Crawford-Harvie, Senior Minister of Arlington Street Church, Unitarian Universalist.
  • Patty Montes, Director of Centro Presente.
  • Shuya Ohno, Director of Communications at Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Agency (MIRA) Coalition.
  • Bishop Filipe Texeira, OFSJC, Diocese of Saint Francis of Assisi.

WHAT: On Wednesday, October 1, 2008, at 5:00 p.m., religious and community leaders from the Boston area will hold a vigil for immigration reform at Boston City Hall Plaza. They will promote a petition calling for a moratorium on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids and will call on elected officials to support a moratorium on the raids and to implement just immigration reform. Signed petitions will be sent to ICE headquarters and to Senators Edward Kennedy and John Kerry. 

The rally is part of a nationwide “Tour of the Faithful” campaign, in which religious groups across the country will hold events calling for immigration reform.
