Russell Lockwood Leadership School
July 23-29, 2016: Mary & Joseph Retreat Center, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA
The Pacific Western Region invites you to be transformed through innovative leadership within your congregation!
Invest in yourself and your congregation by engaging in one inspiring and intensive week this summer at Russell Lockwood Leadership School (RLLS). One week—exploring the history, values, actions, inspirations and complexities of the Unitarian Universalist liberal religious tradition. One week—learning with other UUs from around the west. One week—sharing a wide range of study and spiritual practice focused on nourishing what ís meaningful and necessary for Unitarian Universalist (UU) leaders who wish to be skillful contributors to our congregations and to our local and global communities.
The curriculum of RLLS evolves continuously to present congregational leaders—both lay leaders and religious professionals—with the resources and perspectives to help you guide 21st century UU congregations. Faculty and staff are intentionally recruited for their spiritual depth, knowledge innovation, and teaching ability. Each year, these exceptional clergy, congregational and UUA regional staff leaders craft a fully integrated curriculum that weaves leadership, history, theology, relationship and current technology into each presentation.
Small Group Reflections
In addition to 20+ hours of multi-media classroom presentation, you will spend 25+ hours with small groups, reflecting, investigating, processing and presenting. You will bond with different small groups daily throughout the week to create worship and to share as a covenant group. Through these experiences, you’ll find the means to integrate new information and perspectives with authentic congregational situations.
Feed Your Body and Soul
Along with the learning, your days will be filled with delicious and healthy meals served buffet style; contemplative and invigorating worship each morning and evening; singing, music, movement and ritual; fellowship and fun, even a bit of free time for recreation or napping. The week culminates with an open mic night, featuring plenty of talent, silly skits, poetry both original and beloved, earnest efforts welcomed with open hearts, and lots of laughter.
Leave Renewed and Energized
You’ll leave with a certificate of completion, a wealth of resources to share with boards and congregations back home, and a rich store of memories never to be forgotten. Congregational teams are encouraged—your take-aways will be enriched through the companionship of your fellow leaders. A group of 3-5 is ideal.
This is an intentionally intensive experience—a week-long journey to Unitarian Universalist leadership.
