The Mountain Desert District is hosting Building the Beloved Community: How Do We Talk About Race, Class & Privilege? January 23-25, 2009 at the First Universalist Church of Denver, CO. Friday night will feature a conversation with Dr. Vincent Harding; Saturday will feature training with class action consultants on race and class. The 7th National Midsize Conference will be held February 6-8, 2009 in Houston, TX. Keynote speaker will be Dr. L Lee Knefelkamp, a national scholar and award winning Professor of Psychology and Education in the Program of Social-Organizational Psychology, Teacher's College, Columbia University. Dr. Knefelkamp has written and presented widely on intellectual and identity development, intercultural and diversity issues, moral and ethical development, and inclusive excellence. Also workshops on building accountable partnerships, inclusive stewardship programs, leading in lean times, multicultural membership, nuts and bolts for board and committee operations, policy governance and using the web. Countdown to International Convocation of UU Women: February 26 – March 1, 2009, Houston, TX
Are you going to miss the most exciting gathering of UU women of the world ever? We hope not! It will be the ultimate social action training event! The International Convocation of UU Women, the first-ever international gathering of UU women, has registered over 400 persons! Countries represented include the United States, England, Romania, India, Uganda, Kenya, Japan, and the Philippines. The mission of the ICUUW is to energize the tremendous capacity of UU women to enhance and create global and local programs to address the rights of women and to eradicate severe poverty.

Visit the UU World website and read the article in the latest issue (Winter 2008) by ICUUW Advisory Committee member Professor Christine Nielsen about a UU-initiated program for women's rights in the Philippines, "Women crafting a better world."
If four people from the same congregation register, all will receive a $25 rebate check at the Convocation. The first 200 UU ministers and seminary students to register will receive a $50 rebate check. Youth and young women ages 14-35 can register for just $299. Reservations for exhibit tables start at just $150.
The 5th Annual Sexuality Education Advocacy Training will be held March 21-24, 2009 in Washington, DC. This training is co sponsored by the UUA, the United Church of Christ, The Union for Reformed Judaism, Advocates for Youth and the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice.
