The following statement was issued on June 15, 2012, by Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) President the Rev. Peter Morales:
"Today's announcement from President Obama that his Administration will no longer seek the deportation of undocumented immigrants who were brought to this country as children is an encouraging step toward a humane national immigration policy. I applaud the President’s decision, and I hope the Obama Administration will follow this step with other actions aimed at just immigration reform.
"But I also remain deeply concerned that it has taken so long to reach this simple moral position. As people of faith, Unitarian Universalists rejoice in the President's announcement but remain vigilant regarding the injustices inherent in our current immigration system.
"The Unitarian Universalist Association is a strong advocate for immigration justice, and will continue to stand on the side of love for just immigration reform."
The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) is a faith community of more than 1,000 self-governing congregations that bring to the world a vision of religious freedom, tolerance, and social justice.
