Letter from William G. Sinkford Concerning Fires in Southern California
October 25, 2007
Dear Friends:
My heart goes out to those whose lives have been affected by the wildfires in Southern California. The extent of the devastation will not be fully known until the fires are extinguished, but it is already clear that the destruction is on a historic scale and that recovery will take many years.
I am deeply grateful that the human toll has been relatively low, at least in proportion to the vast scope of this disaster. But lives have been lost, homes and businesses have been destroyed, and countless communities and families are in desperate need of immediate assistance. Those touched by this tragedy include many of our Unitarian Universalist (UU) brothers and sisters in the region.
In response to this emergency, the Unitarian Universalist Association's (UUA's) Pacific Southwest District (PSWD) has established the PSWD Fire Relief Fund. A district committee will disburse all funds collected to UU congregations, UUs in need, community groups in relationship with UU congregations, and other groups supporting those most in need.
Donations to the PSWD Fire Relief Fund are being accepted online. If you wish to contribute by mail, please send funds to:

2052 Norma Street

I invite individuals as well as congregations to contribute to the fund. In a time of great trauma we often feel helpless, but this time we can take concrete action to help the survivors begin rebuilding. Thank you in advance for your generosity. I know that you join me in wishing those in Southern California safety, assistance, and hope.
In faith,
William G. Sinkford
