UUSC and UUA Launch Joint Relief Effort for Haiti
In the wake of devastation wrought by the earthquake which struck the island of Haiti on January 12, 2010, the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC) and the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) launched a joint relief effort to bring aid to the impoverished island nation.
The Haitian Office of Coordination of Humanitarian Assistance (OCHA) estimates 2.2 million people are immediately affected in this nation of 9 million people. Estimates suggest that the dead number more than 200,000.
What the UUSC is Doing; Where Your Donation Is Going
Organizations receiving UUSC-UUA funding include Papaye Peasant Movement (MPP), the Lambi Fund of Haiti, Platform of Community Organizations of the Port-au-Prince Metropolitan Zone (COZPAM) in Port-au-Prince and Regional Coordination of Southeast Organizations (CROSE) in Jacmel. UUSC sent an assessment mission to Haiti on February 5 to work with partners in developing a mid- and long-term response. See the UUSC website for further information and updates.

More than $1,965,000 has been donated as of February 4, 2011.
Contributions toward Haiti relief are deductible for 2009 taxes.
Note: American Express (AMEX) agreed to waive transaction fees for credit card donations through February 28, 2010, to UUSC and other InterAction members that are participating in the Haiti earthquake relief effort.
One year after the earthquake in Haiti, UUSC and the UUA continue to respond to the enormity of the devastation.
