"Life is full of difficulty..."

Rev. Dennis McCarty
Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Columbus, IN
August 31, 2008

"Life is full of difficulty. Bad things Happen. There is so much we do not know. Yet, since humanity's very beginnings, people have come together to support and care for one another in times of tumult and affliction and trial and tragedy. We are most uniquely human—and, I would contend, we most reach for the truly holy—when we do come together to lend solace to one another."

"The distant past is a great shadow into which we with our small powers of reason and insight, may reflect only tiny pinpricks of light. The future is an immense and impenetrable mystery. Yet the very fact that we human beings are still here, says what we most need to know about the human race at times like this. We are greater than our misfortunes. When all is said and done, we do have the capacity to reach beyond the evil and ignorance that seem to surround us, and to help others in their struggle to do this, as well."
