"This senseless act of violence has affected the Unitarian Universalist faith community deeply..."

Rev. Catherine Harrington
People’s Church
Ludington, Michigan

This senseless act of violence has affected the Unitarian Universalist faith community deeply. Religious communities across the nation are in mourning with us as we try to recover from the impact of this tragedy. The Christian Science Monitor reports that there have been at least 13 major church shootings in the last decade. We cannot practice our faith with fear as our guide.

Unitarian Universalism offer a message of equity, hope, compassion, justice, peace, and love. We embrace diversity and believe in the inherent worth and dignity of every person. Out of our deepest values and core beliefs, we respond to this tragedy with that same life-affirming message: Love overcomes hate. Love overcomes fear. Love overcomes violence.

The outpouring of care and support from the interfaith community of Knoxville as well as from around the country and the world is evidence of the power of love. Our UU religious community is being sustained and comforted by the spontaneous gifts of prayer, love and support from peoples of all faiths, and we are deeply grateful as it brings us even greater hope for a better tomorrow as we all struggle in this difficult time in our nation and in our world. We need each other to work in solidarity and hope.

On behalf of the members and friends of People's Church, I would like to thank the interfaith community of Ludington for their prayers and support as we unite with our fellow UU’s in Knoxville in grieving this horrendous loss. Together we will walk the path of hope, love, and forgiveness.

This work is made possible by the generosity of individual donors. Please consider making a donation today.
