"Dear God, we’re weary..."
First Unitarian Universalist Society of Burlington, VT
July 28, 2008
Rev. Gary Kowalski and Rev. Elaine Bomford
Dear God, we’re weary.
Tired of the violence, sick of the hate, exhausted by the struggle,
Discouraged by yet another act of mayhem.
We long for peace,
For an end to the bloodshed,
A cessation of hostilities,
But not for a false tranquillity.
For only a lasting peace will do—
One founded on justice,
Secured by the dignity and co-humanity of all,
Dedicated to the sisterhood and brotherhood
Of people everywhere.
Grant us then strength for the journey,
Perseverance on the long path to freedom,
Hearts that are true
To your dream for us:
The blessed community of love and light.
