"Spirit of Life, / Gracious and loving God..."

Rev. Heather Janules
Cedar Lane Unitarian Universalist Church
August 3, 2008

Spirit of Life,
Gracious and loving God,
We pray for peace, hope and courage
In this sad time.

We pray for the families and friends of Greg McKendry and Linda Kreager
As they grieve the loss of their loved ones through this senseless act.
We pray for the wounded, that they may heal in body, mind and soul.
We pray for all those who came to church that morning,
To sing, to laugh, to celebrate the children, to pray their own prayers— That the love they received this week will ease the nightmare of their
memories.
We pray for the children who, in their youth,
Have already seen too much, have lost too much, in this broken world of ours.

And, knowing that tortured souls make desperate acts,
We may also pray for Jim Adkisson,
That he may one day see the divine in life that he chose to destroy.
Such an awakening to this beauty
Would be his redemption and his punishment.

And we pray for all those faith communities and schools and neighborhoods
and countries
Suffering from hatred and violence every day
Whose number is too large to count
But whose sorrow is felt throughout the human family.

We ask this in the name of all that is holy.
May the Great Silence be our benediction.
