"I still believe in the inherent worth of all people..."

I Still Believe

I still believe in the inherent worth of all people

I still believe that there is more Good in the world than evil.

My faith does not expect, nor require, that there be a divine purpose in tragedy.

I have a choice, however, to find my own meaning in it.

In the face of evidence to the contrary, I choose to look harder for that Good.

I join in the outpouring of sympathy and caring to those who have suffered loss and trauma.

In that heartfelt empathy, I gather my family and friends tighter in my love.

As a prayer of concern sent to a sister congregation, I choose to rededicate myself to my own congregation.

As I grieve for the trauma and loss that those children, far away, witnessed, I worry in love about our own children.

I cannot forgive the act of desperation and hatred unleashed in Knoxville.  But I can try to understand and address the causes of similar desperation and hatred in Frederick.

I still believe in the power of persons of good will working together to provide hope and healing.

I still believe that when the web of all existence trembles in one spot, that hope and love resonate throughout the web in answer.

This work is made possible by the generosity of individual donors. Please consider making a donation today.
