"We come tonight with much pain and sadness..."

Rev. Susan Frederick-Gray
Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Phoenix
Wednesday, July 30, 2008

We come tonight with much pain and sadness. Some of us knew people who are members of the congregations affected. All of us feel a little more vulnerable knowing that hate and violence violated the peace and security of one of our sanctuaries. But we come together, standing together, so that fear will not overcome us—and that we might be even in this tragedy, strengthen by the beloved community we try each and every day to practice and live.

At this time, I invite you as you wish to come forward and light a candle of memory and hope. If you wish, you may share with us your feelings, you may also light candles silently.

And I light this final candle for all the prayers, for all the words, for all the feelings left unspoken, for all we hold dear in our hearts.

This work is made possible by the generosity of individual donors. Please consider making a donation today.
